This photograph was taken in driving snow near the summit of the Santiam Pass, at under 5000 feet, in May.   I hadn't been prepared to find these low passes snow-affected or even blocked, as was the McKenzie, and in fact my photography plans in the area west of Bend were completely compromised by the fact that the roads hadn't yet been cleared beyond the ski stations.
