Monochrome Landscapes
1. Pine Creek, Montana
In hot weather in August 2012, a man used a digger to clear out
roots and rocks from a piece of land in Pine Creek, southern
Montana. The digger's scoop scraped on a rock, causing sparks, and
in the course of the next few days a resulting fire burned most of
the community of Pine Creek and raced up nearby tree-covered
mountains. A month later in snow it was a starkly photogenic sight,
though local farmers reminded us that they now have to look at this
desolate view every day for the rest of their lives
