Matera is one of Italy's most interesting cities, and the "Sasso" area essentially comprises limestone caves with built fronts.  They were forcibly abandoned a few decades ago but are now being resettled mainly by small creative businesses, hotels and restaurants as well as dwellings.  A great area for a couple of days photography.
